Outreach Committee – a message from Community Living, Oakville

The Outreach Committee is asking for your help to support two young men who are clients of Community Living and who are on Crisis Funding because their families cannot afford to pay for the support of the day programs that make it possible for them to continue to live at home. Here is an excerpt from the request that we received from Alexandra Hayes, who works for Community Living:
“The day program allows these boys to have experiences in the community, teaches them life skills, boosts their self-esteem and confidence, and supports them in achieving their day-to-day goals.
We at Community Living try to make everything as low cost as we can but there are a few activities that add up each month and without payment there is no participation.
When the young men don’t get to participate it means they have to stay indoors all day with staff in our small office. Both of these boys have behaviours that are triggered by inactivity and boredom and can end up hurting themselves and others when they aren’t given the opportunity to release their energy in a safe and healthy way.
The cost of the program’s activities for the month is $120 per person. This money covers swimming three times a week, one cooking class a week, gymnastics class once a week and one special outing a month.
Any help you could offer these two deserving boys would be wonderful and appreciated.”
You can make a one time gift, or pledge to support them monthly through PAR (write in the amount and Community Living on your pledge card) or by check or cash on the offering plate or in the church office.
These young men are among the most marginalized of our community; through your gifts, our church lives out our mission to love our neighbours.
