Book Club on Racism

Zoom Book Club Meeting

Summary of one of the 2 zoom book club events for White Fragility by Robin Diangelo. Special thanks to Joan Vinall-Cox and Debbie Will Dryden for hosting on Zoom.

“A book is the only place in which you can examine a fragile thought without breaking it . . .or explore an explosive idea without fear it will go off in your face … ”

Edward P Morgan

The group had a non threatening and helpful discussion of racism in Canada,  our community and our own experiences around a few key questions that the book raised. No conclusions were reached but it was agreed that there was value in talking about the issue out of the shared experience of the author’s ideas.

We also felt that we would like to continue with another book aiming for the Zoom meeting to be at the end of September.  The book An Inconvenient Indian by Thomas King has been chosen as our next read to continue to examine the topic of racism. We need two new leaders for the next book club so please contact me, Katy Joaquim, at [email protected] if you are willing to take this on.
