What the Outreach Committee Does, 2018

The Outreach Committee of Maple Grove United Church provides outreach to various communities at the International, national and local levels.  Projects that we support include: assisting Refugee families to come to Canada and relocate successfully, Neighbour Care Network (NCN, formerly Restore Halton) where we support Halton families in need with emotional, financial and coordination in finding support from various government programs.

In addition we provide financial assistance or resources to numerous organizations including Fair Trade groups, Canada Foodgrains Bank, Sleeping Children Around the World, First Nations Scholarship, Kerr Street Mission, and Wesley Urban Ministries. Lastly, we provide updates on the United Church initiatives in monthly ‘Minute for Mission’ readings.

Our committee team is comprised 11 church members.

NCN members include nine church members, as well as four new volunteers from the Board family, .

How can you help?  Participate in our social and fundraising activities including the upcoming Modern Miracle Spaghetti Dinner in April 2019.  Keep an eye out for requests for assistance such as clothing, furnishings etc and help where you can. The support to date has been overwhelming. Financial support for the programs – we are finding that families in the NCN program can be greatly assisted with strategic financial help from time to time. As the number of families we support increases this is impacting our ability to provide this support from our limited fundraising activities. Please consider a direct contribution to Outreach to support these programs.

Interested in getting involved?  We are actively looking for new committee members, or help when the need arises for some of the activities.
